1947 – 2025
Michael B. Summers, a beloved husband, father, friend, and sports enthusiast, passed away on January 13, 2025. He was 77 years old.
Born in Altadena, California, on May 19, 1947, Mike grew up with a love for sports that would stay with him his entire life. He attended Bishop Amat High School, where he excelled in football, a talent that earned him a scholarship to Idaho State University. There, Mike continued his passion for football.
It was in 1985 when Mike’s life took an unexpected, but wonderful turn. After deciding he wasn’t going to date anymore, he crossed paths with Joanie—who had made the same New Year’s resolution. As fate would have it, their resolutions were meant to be broken. They married on March 15, 1986, in a ceremony officiated by Mike’s nephew, Fr. Tim McGowen. Together, they raised Joanie’s two children, Michael and Jennifer, and built a life full of love, laughter, and shared adventures.
Mike’s love for sports never wavered. If it had a ball in it, he was watching. He also shared a deep connection with Joanie and their best friends, Brenda and Rich, on many memorable cruises. His larger-than-life presence and passion for life touched everyone around him.
Mike is survived by his wife, Joanie, his children Michael and Jennifer, and a wide network of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews—each of whom he cherished deeply. He will be remembered as a man who loved his family fiercely and lived his life with joy and heart. He will be missed by all who knew him.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, February 1, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Angela Merici Church, 585 S. Walnut Ave., Brea, CA. Friends and family are invited to join in the celebration of Michael's life.
