Rafael fell in love and married Maria De La Luz Tellez and together they had 5 beautiful children. Rafael was left to care for his children after a tragic accident left him a widower and he had to make the difficult decision to immigrate to the US to be able to support them.
Rafael was introduced to Teresa Castrejón and her toddler son in MX one fateful day in 1984. They quickly fell in love and moved to the US a few years later when they welcomed their youngest son. Rafael, encouraged by the support of his new wife, worked tirelessly to establish himself in the US to be able to bring his children with him. Finally, his efforts paid off and he was reunited with his older children within a few years.
Rafael can best be described as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle and a genuinely good person to anyone who met him. Always ready to crack a joke, his smile will be missed. He was a faithful servant of Christ and dedicated his time and talents to church activities even far after his own medical condition allowed him. On any given day, you could catch Rafael enjoying his coffee with bread in the mornings, rooting for his favorite soccer team or waiting for his beloved Teresa to come home from work to have dinner.
Rafael is survived by his wife, 10 siblings, 7 children and their partners, 23 grandchildren, a great-granddaughter and countless nieces and nephews.
