Grace Carol Gibbons

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 2, 2016, at Bergen Lutheran Church in Roland, Iowa, with burial to follow at the Sheldahl Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., Friday, January 1, 2016, at Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 W. First Street.

Grace Carol Canfield was born on November 29, 1924, in Des Moines, Iowa, to George and Nona (Van Dorn) Canfield. She grew up and received her education in Sheldahl, graduating in the class of 1943.

On November 29, 1943, Grace was united in marriage to Howard Gibbons. The couple was blessed with four children; David, Robert, Kathy, and Dixie. Grace was at home while the children were young before she began to work at EMC Insurance and later at Hy-Vee in the bakery department.

Grace was the matriarch of her family and loved them and her Lord and Savior with her whole heart. She was delighted by flower gardens, fishing, and making jams and meals for her family. Her greatest gift was showing her family the love she received from her Lord and Savior.

Grace will be deeply missed by her children, Robert (Marilyn) Gibbons, Kathy Buster, and Dixie (Peggy Metcalf) Gibbons; grandchildren, Jana (Travis) Lively, Patrik Gibbons, Paul Gibbons, Stephanie (John Davis) Buster, Krista (Dustin) Beyer, Brian (Noelle) Gibbons, Abigail (David Jr.) Freerksen, Eric (Tammy) Hawbaker, Todd (Sarah) Hawbaker, Kristina (Phil) Greenfield, and Savannah Boles; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters, Patricia Tate and Dorothy (Bill) Daugherty; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended family.

She was welcomed home by her husband, Howard; parents, George and Nona Canfield; son, David Gibbons; and son-in-law, Duane Buster.
