John Owen Clark, 57, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, March 7, 2023 at UnityPoint Methodist in Des Moines. Visitation will be from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, March 12, 2023 at Ankeny Funeral Home with a memorial service following at 2 p.m. at the funeral home. A private burial will take place at Ankeny Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
John was born April 8, 1965 in Oskaloosa to Lyle and Sandra (Scott) Clark. He grew up on a farm outside of Bussey, IA and was a 1983 graduate of Twin Cedars High School in Bussey. After graduation he went to work for Maytag from 1987 to 2007 and then the Ankeny Hardware Store where he managed the small engine repair shop. John was a certified mechanic for Honda, Briggs, Toro, and Stihl Silver Level.
John lived in the blue Ford oval and had a 1966 Mustang that he completely restored and owned since he was 15. He enjoyed attending many different car shows and was a member of the Good Guys Car Club. John was also a pinball enthusiast and was well known for restoring and repairing them.
John is survived by his wife of 36 years, Dannette; two sons, Jacob and Austin; mother, Sandra; two brothers, Jeff and James; granddog, Bear; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Lyle and grandparents.
Memorials may be directed to St. Jude Children’s Hospital in memory of his cousin, Junior Clark who was the same age as John at his passing when they were kids.
