

Memorial Services will be held on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, at 11:00 am at the Ankeny Funeral Home, 1510 West First Street, Ankeny, Iowa 50023. There will be a visitation held at 10:00 am until the time of the services at the funeral home on Tuesday. There will be a time of food and fellowship held at at the funeral home immediately following the service. Burial of her ashes will be held at Ottumwa Cemetery in Ottumwa, Iowa at a later date.
Karen was born June 22, 1959, in Sycamore, Illinois to Faye and Marian (Montavon) Johnson. She was the fourth child of ten brothers and sisters. She owned and operated KM Upholstery in Des Moines for over 20 years. She worked at Firestone Agricultural for 11 years. She worked in sales and marketing for various companies in her later years before she was diagnosed with Leukemia. Following her Leukemia diagnosis, Karen spent every day getting the most out of life.
Karen loved working with her hands, home improvements, and making a good deal. Karen volunteered for Habitat for Humanity where she was a crew leader on many projects. Most of all, she dearly loved spending time with her family, especially her daughters, her grandson, and their families.
Surviving are her daughters, Amie Johnson and Katelyn (David) Farrell; 7 grandchildren, Kevin, Kloe, Noelle, Daniel, Maverick, Olivia and River; a great-granddaughter, Rose, and eight siblings, Dan Johnson, Dave Johnson, Tracy (Jeannie) Johnson, Tyna (Dick) Van Den Broeke, Robin (Rodney) Benson, Bobbie DiChiara, Greg (Linda) Johnson, and Ken (Carole) Bone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Marian Bone-Spicer and Faye Johnson, and a brother, Bill Bone.
