

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am Tuesday, April 7th at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church, of which he was a founding member. A visitation will be held at Ankeny Funeral Home at 5 pm on Monday, April 6th with a vigil service following at 7 pm. The burial will be at Pine Hill Cemetery.
Ken was born in Dunkerton, Iowa, graduated from Ankeny High School in 1956, and lived in Ankeny for the past 75 years. He truly loved Ankeny and the members of his 1956 graduating class. Ken worked for over 30 years at AMF Western Tool. He then worked at Qualis, Inc. in Des Moines and Arnold’s Motor Supply in Ankeny before his retirement in 2007.
A loyal Notre Dame football fan and New York Yankees baseball fan, Ken loved being with people and did not know a stranger. He treasured time with his family and extended group of friends. Ken was widely recognized around Ankeny, enjoying coffee mornings and afternoons with “the guys” and lunch and dinner at several different restaurants around town.
He will be truly missed by his son Allen (Amy) of Ankeny; son David (Heather) of Des Moines; and granddaughters Rachel and Sarah Purdy of Ankeny; and grandsons Finn and Jackson Purdy of Des Moines. He is also survived by his brother Donald (Peg), as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by Bettie, his wife of nearly 50 years, as well as his father and mother, Carleton and Ethel Purdy and his brothers Arthur and Charles.
