Lois Kay (Zweibohmer) Meinert departed for her eternal rest on August 25, 2024. A visitation will be held on August 29th, 2024 At St. Luke the Evangelist Catholic Church from 9:00am to 11:00 am with services immediately following.
Born on April 12, 1941 in Decorah, Iowa to Greg and Esther (Murray) Zweibohmer, Lois was the oldest of 8 siblings raised on the family dairy farm outside of Ossian.
Upon graduation from Ossian DeSales High School, Lois attended St. Mary’s School of Nursing in Rochester, Minnesota, graduating a Licensed Practical Nurse. She worked caring for people for 50 years.
Lois was united in marriage to Lee on May 12, 1962 in Ossian, Iowa. They would raise 4 boys together, moving around the state for Lee’s job before settling in Manchester. From there they moved to Ankeny in 1987, and have called that home since. After Lois retired from nursing she volunteered at the Animal Rescue League near Ankeny. The little kittens were her favorite.
Lois is survived by her husband of 62 years, Lee; sons Jim and his wife Christine of Deerbrook, WI, Arick and his wife Shelly of Ankeny. Lois is also survived by her 6 grandchildren; Greyson, Devon, Collin, Kennedy, Jaren and Karly. She was preceded in death by by her two oldest sons, Michael and Bryan Meinert; her parents, Greg and Esther Zweibohmer; and brothers Greg Jr. Zweibohmer and James Zweibohmer.
Lois will always be remembered as a loving wife, a dedicated and nurturing mother and grandmother, a skilled and caring nurse, and a tough lady with an unshakable faith in God. So glad you are free of your pain, Mom. Give Bryan and Michael a hug from us.
