Robert Lee Santi

Robert was born on June 19, 1948, to Leonard and Bonnie (Burke) Santi in Des Moines at Methodist Hospital. He graduated from Madrid High School in 1966. He was a standout athlete while in high school and he lettered in basketball, baseball, track and field and football. After high school, Robert enlisted into the United States Marine Corp and served honorably from 1966 to 1969. He did two tours in Vietnam during the time in the Marines. After being discharged, he spent several years in the National Guard. Robert attended Iowa State University and graduated from Drake University with a bachelor’s degree in business. Robert was united in marriage to Karla Diane Moss on April 7, 1990, in Des Moines, Iowa.

Robert owned and operated The Santi Agency in Madrid for around ten years. He specialized in real estate and insurance. He was also co-owner of BJ’s Lounge in Madrid. He later opened a woodworking shop called Wood N Things in Madrid in 1991 that he operated for over five years. Then he began working at Woodward Resource Center as a storekeeper in the warehouse. Robert retired in 2013. He enjoyed diddy pole fishing in the Des Moines River, hunting and woodworking, He could fix anything that broke and make it new. Robert was an avid Iowa State Cyclone Fan. He was an active member of VFW post 5060 in Madrid. Past All State Commander of the VFW in 1974 and 1996.

Robert was preceded in death by his parents. Robert is survived by his wife, Karla; his daughter, Renee (Dave) Santi; his son, Bob Santi; his brother, Joe (Lois) Santi and his beloved pets, Bulldog Tiger and Cats, Sneaky Pete and Whitey.

Memorials may be directed to the family and will be given to a charity of their choosing at a later date.
