

Steve Paulson, age 53, of Ankeny, Iowa passed away at home with his family by his side, after an unexpected and courageous stand against stage 4 esophageal cancer on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. A Visitation and celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022, from 11 - 1 pm at the Ankeny Funeral Home.
Steve was born July 4, 1968, in Fort Dodge, Iowa to Jon and Janet (Allen) Paulson. After graduating from Humboldt high school, Steve joined the Army and later attended Missouri Western College. In 2004, Steve was united in Marriage to Shelly Weideman-Paulson. One of his biggest passions was his love of music and was a singer for the Two For One band for several years. Steve was an avid Raiders and Iowa State Football fan. He enjoyed collecting and reading books and debating just about any topic.
Steve spent the last 10 years in custodial positions that allowed him to encourage and support our youth. Most recently he was a custodian at Westwood Elementary School, all the kids loved "Mr. Steve". He was very fortunate to spend time with his grandkids and they loved nothing more than spending time with grandpa. Steve was a friend to anyone and didn't know a stranger.
Steve is survived by his wife, Shelly; children, Mariah (Jacob) Smith, Logan (Chelsey) Ott, and Hailey Paulson; grandkids, Annalise Ott, Gennevieve Boucher, Atlas Ott, Isabella Smith, Anastasia Ott, Lincoln Smith, and Ainsley Ott; father, Jon (Deanne) Paulson; fathers-in-law; Leland Weideman and Tom Filloon; siblings, Joe (Deb) Paulson, Julie (Paul) Kollmorgen; Sister-in-law April Kelley; Brother-in-law Mike (Rachelle) Weideman; step-brother Doug Winke; nieces and nephews, Luke (Olivia) Kollmorgen, Cayla Paulson, Sydney (Grant) Kollmorgen, Scott Kelley, Kyle Paulson, Kallie (Matt) Bentz, Jessica (Adrian) Steele and Aleyah Weideman. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Paulson; Mother-in-laws, Diane Adaire and Fran Weideman.
