A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025, from 1:00pm to 4:00pm at Ankeny Funeral Home and Crematory. A private burial of ashes will take place at a later date at Prairie View Cemetery in Paulina, Iowa.
Steven was born on March 25, 1954, in Primghar, Iowa, to James and Iris (Tesch) Koch. He graduated from Gilmore City/ Bradgate High School in 1972. On August 10, 1974, he was united in marriage to Marla Jean George at the Methodist church in Humboldt, Iowa. They began their journey together with Steve's enlistment in the Army. This took the couple to Colorado Springs, then all the way to Germany. After his discharge from the military in 1978, Steve and Marla made their home in Webster City, Iowa, where they raised their daughter and son.
In 1996, they moved to Ankeny, Iowa, where Steve worked for the United States Postal Service as a supervisor of motor vehicle services. He retired from the USPS in August of 2018.
He was a lover of cars, Harley's, and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Steve was always there to lend a hand to any friends or relatives that needed help. He had a bright spirit and infectious laugh and brought joy to everyone he encountered.
Steven is survived by his wife of 51 years, Marla Jean (George) Koch; his children, Sara Ann Koch and Tyler James Koch; grandchildren, Makayla Ann Christeson, Jazmyn Nicole Davis, and Ashton James Koch; great-grandchildren, Allya Ann Marie Peacock and Tate James Peacock; his sister, Kim (Kevin) Walsh and families; brothers in law, Michael (Rhonda) George and family and Dan Renken and family; sister in law, Michelle (Bob) Nielsen and family; as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, uncles, cousins, and many friends. Steve also leaves behind his loving dog, Wilson P.
He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Iris Koch; grandparents, Art and Alma Tesch and Raymond and Nora (Theessen) Koch; parents-in-law, Jerry and JoAnn George; and his sister-in-law, Joanie Renken.
