Chris was born on November 20, 1962, in Ann Arbor, Michigan, to the late Harry Richard “Ray” and Dolores Mae “Dee” (Gilbertson) Hankins. He grew up in Ann Arbor and graduated from Huron High School.
Over the years, Chris held a variety of jobs, but most recently worked as a custodian at Greenhills School.
Chris was a family man. He was fiercely loyal, always the first to arrive at family gatherings and often the last to leave. If there was a family event, Chris was there — sometimes before the doors were even unlocked. He loved spending time with his siblings, nieces, and nephews, and could always be counted on for Family Jeopardy, where his competitive spirit (and selective rule interpretation) made for memorable laughs.
Chris was a devoted sports fan, cheering passionately for the University of Michigan, the Detroit Lions, and the Detroit Red Wings. When not watching a game, he could often be found relaxing in his recliner, enjoying classic old movies — usually with a dog by his side.
A man of few words, Chris found companionship in his dogs, including Onyx, Harley, Rocket, and most recently, Buddy. He loved taking them for walks and enjoyed their company just as much as they enjoyed his. Chris also enjoyed, more than 20 years, of open road on his Harley-Davidson.
Chris loved good food but would not cook. His favorite birthday meals were Arby’s or Texas Roadhouse — and he saw no reason to change a perfect tradition.
He is survived by his siblings, Scott (Jocelyn) Hankins, Mark Hankins, Stephanie (Mark Imbimbo) Bailey, Jason (Arica) Hankins, and Shelley (Tim) DelCampo; along with many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Chris was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Cathy Hankins.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
