

Doris Cross Fraker, 89, wife of Charles (Carlos) Fraker, died Monday, November 27th of pancreatic cancer at Huron Woods, their residence since August of this year. They have been residents of Ann Arbor for many years and also maintained a residence in Hartford, CT. Doris was born February 4, 1928, in Norwich, CT, daughter of Adeline and Robert Cross. She received degrees from Wellesley College and Harvard University, earning a master’s degree. She met Carlos while they were studying at Harvard. They were married for fifty-seven wonderful years. She taught Spanish at Brandeis University and the University of Massachusetts. Doris was a member of Memorial Baptist Church in Hartford, CT and attended First Baptist Church of Ann Arbor where she belonged to the MacGregor-Stitt Circle of the American Baptist Women’s Ministries. An avid reader, Doris was a member of The Faculty Women’s Club at the University of Michigan book discussion group. She and Carlos loved children of all ages and students loved them. Together they were great role models and mentored many students, colleagues and younger friends over the years in Ann Arbor as well as Massachusetts. Besides her husband, Carlos, Doris leaves two cousins and many friends to cherish her memories. The family would like to especially thank Yolanda Casillas and Juan Gonzalez, Barbara and Pablo Alvarez, and the staff of Huron Woods for all their assistance. On Thursday, December 7, 2017, there will be a gathering of friends from 1-2pm followed by a Celebration of Doris’s Life in the chapel at Huron Woods. Burial will be at a later date in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford, CT.
