Frances “Franny” Eunice Frappier (nee’ Moser) died of natural causes on Wednesday November 13, 2024 in Wayne, MI at the age of 77. She was the cherished wife of Vince for 53 years. She leaves behind her husband Vincent Frappier of Ann Arbor, MI; sister Ruth Lebovitz of Patterson, NY; brothers Robert S. Moser Jr (Patricia) of Green Valley, AZ, and Joseph Moser (Heidi) of Wheaton, IL; as well as five nieces and nephews, and seven great nieces and nephews. Frances was born in Detroit, MI on September 4, 1947 to the late Robert S. Moser Sr. and Eunice Frances Moser (nee’ Evans). She Attended Sacred Heart Grade School and High School in Dearborn, MI. She graduated from the University of Michigan School of Art and spent the rest of her life in Ann Arbor, MI. She attended St. Francis of Assisi as well as St. Mary Student Parish Catholic Churches there.
Franny & Vince met while they both attended the University of Michigan. Vince was playing bass guitar in a rock and roll band. The band rented the basement of a house on campus to practice in. When Vince showed up at the house for practice, Franny opened the front door and met Vince! Love at first sight! Luck had it that Franny was a house-mate in the house. Franny & Vince went on to dedicate their lives to the pursuit of art.
Franny was a passionate artist in all aspects of her life: She wrote prose and poetry, weaved, drew and painted, taught art classes, and sewed beautiful things for her family and friends.
Franny’s longtime companion, her childhood teddy bear Red Teddy, inspired her to write and publish the book, Handbook of Teddy Bear Management back in 2017. She wrote several other unpublished manuscripts, including one about her Irish mom, Eunice Frances Moser (nee’ Evans), Franny’s namesake.
Franny’s painting medium of choice was watercolor on paper. She did paintings of the size to be framed and hung on a wall, as well as smaller hand-made watercolor greeting cards, and thank you notes, etc. for her friends and family. It was a special treat to receive a hand-painted card in the mail with a note inside penned by Franny.
When nieces came to Aunt Franny’s home, she would have many “dress up” clothes for the girls, including beautiful dresses, costume jewelry, elegant long-sleeve gloves, hats, scarves, and shoes. “She would take you seriously, even as a child.” Franny was a cherished aunt.
When a young niece spoke about “callerpitters” and “flutterbyes”, Franny memorialized these fantastic creatures in watercolor paintings and in her book about teddy bears. See the watercolor painting: "First the callerpitter. Then the flutterby."
Many years ago, the rooms in Franny’s home were occupied with large wooden hand-operated looms. While sitting at the looms and operating the shuttle with her hands and pedals with her feet, the rhythmic tapping sounds of the beater bar would create music to fill the room. Franny lovingly created beautiful and durable rugs for her family and friends.
Franny was a vegetarian for 40 years of her life and was a frequent sight at restaurants around town. She had several pet German Shepards over the years, including Bear and Vinnie.
Franny’s warmth, creativity, and gentle spirit were a blessing to all those around her. She will be very dearly missed.
