

He was born October 6, 1934 in Auburn, MI to Paul and Ottilia (Marquardt) Mieske. Throughout his endeavor he had consistent loving care from his wife of 57 years, Rayelene, and their children Craig Mieske and Cindy (Kurt) Donovan. His four grandsons Stuart & Colin Mieske and Nolan & Pierce Donovan, were a source of joy for him. He was preceded in death by his parents and survived by his brother Calvin Mieske of Midland and his sister Elaine (Richard) Henderson of Bay City.
Harvey grew up on a farm in Auburn, MI and enrolled in the Army in 1954 and stationed in Germany for 2 years as a medic. Upon returning, he attended Michigan State University and earned a B.S. in Chemistry. Upon graduation, Harvey accepted a position with the Flint Water Department in 1962. In 1965 he relocated to Ann Arbor to become the superintendent of the Ann Arbor Water Treatment Plant. He worked in this position until his retirement in 1997. In retirement, he and Rayelene were campground hosts for 12 summers at Brimley State Park in the upper peninsula.
Harvey was a gentle and kind husband and father who was always in good spirits. He was known for his “Harvey-isms”. Quotes that only he would say and comprehend the meaning. Harvey was a devoted Christian and attended St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ann Arbor. Harvey enjoyed polka music and dancing, his dogs, reading the newspaper, 10+ years caring for rescued blue jay ‘Blue’, road trips, golfing, bowling, camping and attending Spartan football games.
A Memorial Service will be held at Muehlig Funeral Chapel on Friday, March 24. Visitation at 10:00am, service at 11:30am, with light lunch to follow. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider donating to The Bird Center of Michigan, Humane Society of Huron Valley, and St. Paul Luthern Church Ann Arbor.
