

Joyce Hildebrandt Henderson, of Ann Arbor, MI, passed away on October 14, 2010. She was born April 28, 1917 in Lake Mills, Wisconsin, the only child of Oscar and Louise Hildebrandt. She attended Beloit College, University of Wisconsin, and graduate school at Prospect Hall Business School in Milwaukee where she took a medical secretarial course. Joyce met her husband to be, John, singing at a friend’s wedding in Jefferson, Wisconsin, where she grew up. She and John married in 1942 as he was preparing to practice medicine at the University of Michigan, where he was eventually chair of the Department of Ophthamology. During her time in Ann Arbor, she taught Sunday school at the First Presbyterian Church, took part in Cub Scouts, and served on the board of the Anna Botsford-Bach Home. She was very active with and enjoyed supporting the residents and their wives in Dr. Henderson’s department, and also served as his medical secretary on occasion. Retirement years included winters in Naples, Florida, where they sang in the First Presbyterian Church choir for sixteen seasons. In addition to her husband of 68 years, she is survived by her daughter Louise (Richard) of Leesburg, Florida, and three grandchildren, Timothy (Lindsay) of Farmington Hills, Michigan, John (Sydney) of Cleveland, Ohio, and Anne Louise of Tallahassee, Florida. Joyce was predeceased in death by her son, John, in 2006. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Ann Arbor on November 7th at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her name to Arbor Hospice of Ann Arbor.
