Katie was born March 25, 1938, in St. Joseph, Louisiana. Katie was the daughter of Leander Anthony and Elizabeth (Bellows) Banks.
Katie grew up in Newellton, Louisiana alongside her beloved sister, Aletha (James) Carter. She graduated as Salutatorian, from Tensas Parish Training High School in the class of 1956. After graduating from high school, she made her way to Ann Arbor, Michigan and resided there until her transition to be with the Lord.
Katie was employed by St Joseph Mercy Hospital of Ann Arbor, Michigan in the department of Nursing and Patient Care for over 40 years. Katie retired in August of 2000. Katie loved her job and co-workers so much she came out of retirement and went back to work at the University of Michigan Hospital, through Manpower as a Patient Care Sitter until 2019.
Katie truly loved the Lord and gave her life to Christ at an early age in Newellton, Louisiana at Magnolia Baptist Church. As she continued her love for the Lord, she later became a member of the Second Baptist Church of Ann Arbor, under the leadership of Rev. C.W. Carpenter, followed by Rev. Emmett L. Green, and Rev. Mark J. Lyons and ending under the leadership of Pastor Steven J. Daniels, Sr. While at Second Baptist Church, Katie served and led as the Ministry Leader of the Pastor’s Aide Committee for over 30 years. She served her church and three Pastors with excellence and joy. She loved her church family deeply and was a faithful and dedicated Servant of the Lord.
Katie was a lifetime member of the Elks. She served James L. Crawford Lodge #322, located at 2020 Sunset St. in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She served in the role of Assistant Daughter Ruler.
Katie enjoyed gardening, cooking, serving, and taking care of family and friends, and her church family. Katie looked forward to hosting Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner annually with her husband Jerome. She always looked forward to the senior bus trip outings and attending charity luncheons. She loved traveling a couple times a year with her husband, and especially enjoyed cruises. But her all-time favorite pastime was spending time with her best friend Jayla, laughing, listening to music and dancing. One thing Katie made sure of is that everyone had a hot and delicious meal no matter the occasion. She also opened her home up to anyone who needed a place to lay their head.
Katie loved her family and children, Aubrey (Barbara) Lundy, Barry Wilson, Sonya Wilson, and Stephanie “Lynn” Wilson and (step) children, Kirk (Wanda) Thomas, Eric (Sheree Moore) Hall, Sr., Vincent (Sonya) Hall, Allison Thompson, Dianna Wilson. Her sister Aletha (James) Carter, her mother's sister, and only surviving aunt, Irma Alexander Gayles and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins who she cherished dearly. Katie was a beautiful woman inside and out. She loved every person she came in contact with.
Katie was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerome, her parents, Elizabeth Banks, Lewander Banks, and Leander Anthony, her (step) sons Eric Hall, Sr., and Stephon Hawkins.
The family would especially like to thank those who cared for our loved one, Dr. Binju Joel, St. Joseph Senior Health, and Arbor Hospice.
