Magdalena Herkhof passed away peacefully on October 4, 2021, at Brookdale Assisted Living in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Born in the Netherlands in 1940 to the late John and Annigje Herkhof, Magda lived in Indonesia for several years before emigrating with her parents and siblings to the United States, where the family settled in Ann Arbor. She worked at St Joseph Mercy Hospital for over 40 years.
Magda enjoyed the outdoors, nature, hiking, and traveling. She was very lively and had many friends. She did much volunteer work for organizations including Ten Thousand Villages, the Kiwanis, and the Huron River Watershed Council. Magda was very active and enjoyed line dancing, Zumba, tai chi, and ukulele.
She is survived by her daughter, Karen Hinz (Barry), sisters Hennie Valzania (Edward) and Ingrid Herkhof (Joseph Schutte), brothers Dirk Herkhof (Nilda Ferrari) and Peter Herkhof (Joan Braze), grandchildren Rosemary, Joy, Christopher, Barry Jr., Matthew, and five great-grandchildren. She was also survived by her lovely cats Max and Milo.
