Mary was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho, and moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan as an infant where she spent the rest of her life. The eldest daughter of Joseph & Jewel Keeley, Mary was an amazing sister to Joe, Erin, Katie, Pat and Kara Keeley. She also acted as a bonus grandmother to her many nieces and nephews acting as a caretaker, friend or attending many of their events.
After attending an eclectic mix of schools in Ann Arbor including Northside, St. Thomas, University High and Huron High School, Mary stayed nearby for college to earn a Bachelor’s degree at Michigan and a Master’s degree in Education from EMU.
Mary's profession and passion was teaching and assisting children including those with special needs, most recently at Tappan Middle School where she retired in July. Her faith was very important in her life and she was a dynamic and dedicated force volunteering in prayer ministry at Christ The King Catholic Church.
Mary spent many summer days with her relatives and friends at various pools in the area including Ann Arbor Country Club, Racquet Club, Huron Valley and Forestbrooke. She loved the outdoors and often posted her photos from her nature walks daily on the Ann Arbor Townies website. Mary’s last day was spent on the beach at Silver Lake where she mustered the energy to walk into the water.
Mary is survived by her five siblings Joe (Linda) Keeley, Erin Keeley, Katie Keeley (Mark Maher), Pat (Jeannie) Keeley and Kara Keeley (Tom Oldani). She is also survived by her nineteen nieces & nephews: Brendan Keeley (Alex Garcia), Eileen Keeley, Peter (Kate) Maher, Alison Keeley (Matt Draper), Heather (Rob) Lurvey, Sean (Danielle) Wilkinson, Keeley Maher, Taylor Keeley, Jonathan Harris, Charlie Maher, Sarah Keeley, Nicholas Keeley, Lindsay (Justin) Sheppard, Kaelan Oldani, Keegan Oldani, Henry Garcia-Keeley, Lyla Maher, Arthur Garcia-Keeley and Luke Draper.
