Mike was one of my favorite bosses.   He was so good to me!   I loved getting up in the morning and going to work knowing I would spend the day with him because he made my job fun.   What a great guy!   One day I will see you in Heaven, Mike!

I am so sorry to read here while doing a google search on my brother Michael H. Vandelinder II, son of Michael H. Vandelinder, that our cousin Mike has passed on.  Unfortunately after my husband joined the Air Force back in 1978 we didn't get home very often and then after he died in 1995, I decided raising our four children out in South Dakota would be healthier for them than being around the Detroit suburbs. The last time I saw my cousin Mike was at my Dads funeral 7 years ago.  I always thought the world of Mike and I know he had a big impact on many peoples lives.  I am sure he will be missed by many. I was Mike's administrative assistant at Ford Global Paint Engineering.  While I had a lot of good bosses in my career at Ford, Mike was the best.   He was not only my boss but a good friend.   Mike made going to work every morning fun.  I enjoyed taking care of him.   Mike's schedule was so hectic all day that there were days when he couldn't take a lunch break but I would bring in leftovers for him and look at his calendar to see when he had an opening to eat.  My husband would go to grab another piece of chicken and I would say no it was for Mike.   It ended up a joke at our house!   I loved how dapper Mike dressed.  Mike would surprise me with a birthday cake on my birthday.  He was very thoughtful.   I still cannot believe he is gone.  You would be hard pressed to find another person like Mike.

  Mike was a good and dear friend who would always be there if you needed him.  He had a great sense of humor and used it as often as he could.  He roasted me at my retirment party so good there was not a dry eye in the place.  Not from tears of sadness but from laughing so hard.  I always told Mike if he wanted another carreer he should be a stand up comedian and I would be his manager.  He will be missed by all, God Bless Kathy and family.....

I am so sorry to hear about your brother.  I remember how much you loved and cherished him.  It is amazing how our lives have been woven throughout the years.  He was a very dynamic person. If I had known he was going to AAI, I would have stayed at Mazda.

Hi Mike,..I know you are there, up there - you know where. I'll miss you, bud.  Of course, you can't poke fun of me for being a little sensitive.ha.  I will never forget when you brought over some kielbasa, sauerkraut, & mashed potatoes.  That was the nicest presentation that you exhibited that you wanted to be my friend.  I was really honored by this action and to be accepted by you.

I will miss the times we spent in your pool under the stars and black sky, having drinks and smoking a cigar in your backyard.

Patty & I will miss our times together, like spending times with you and Kathy on 4th of July, New Years, Labor Day, and bumping into each other when dealing with our sons.

Patty and I will miss going out to restaurants with you and Kathy or the movies or seeing a play together, having long conversations in your living room, shooting pool or experiencing one of your cocktail parties or just shooting fireworks on your porch. Mike, God Bless You.

Dear Kathy, Kalie, & Derek. I met your husband and dad for the first time you all took me out to dinner a few years ago when I came to your parish church to preach for the poor at the weekend Masses.

It was a delightful Saturday evening I spent with you all which I will never forget. 

Michael was so proud of each of you, your family home, and the graciousness with which you all accepted "undocumented" cats into your family life, sharing your food, water, and shelter with those who had no place to go and be accepted.

I was especially impressed with the home you all made out of your house. The way Michael provided entertainment with your movie theater for me to experience was unique for my evening with you all. It was truly great!

Your loss will no doubt be the largest of your entire life, but with special attention to each other in this time of separation, each of you will remember, day after day and night after night, the family you all created and found to be exciting, entertaining, and exemplary in your moments of togetherness and separation. 

In the days, weeks, months, and years to come as you cherish the memory of those moments which brought you all so close together, remain connected, despite this moment which has turned life upside down for each of you.

The power of God's understanding (natural and supernatural) will be yours as you remain connected in thought and prayer with each other and your husband and dad, now enjoying the Kingdom of Heaven, the next dimension in our mortal and immortal lives.

I worked with Mike all his years in Ontario.  He was a good boss who became a good friend.  I was saddened to hear that Mike had passed away.

I will miss Mike's smile and dimples! He could be very devilish with his remarks - he loved to tease people - very sharp witted. He was really good at poking fun at my husband, Ron! He was such a live-wire and hard working man that I can't comprehend that he is gone. I remember him doing big projects around the house, even when he was "on vacation"! He never stopped, he was like the ever-ready bunny! But he was also very thoughtful and generous - he enjoyed having people over - he enjoyed sharing his lovely home and pool with friends and family. Our sons got to know eachother by being on the same baseball team about 7 years ago - as Derek and Joe's friendship grew, so did our friendship with Kathy and Mike. My husband, Ron, was the Head Coach of the team and also Derek and Joe both loved playing hockey. For a couple of years, I think Joe was at the Vandelinder house so much that he felt like Kathy and Mike were like his second parents!! Michael and Ron loved playing hockey, as well -they even played together a few times!!! This is very sad because I know Kathy and Mike had a really good marriage and they both were fighting for his life until the very end.

I was so deeply saddened to hear of Michael's passing. I grew-up next door to the Vandelinder family and spent many hours at their home.  Please know that all of you are in my thoughts and prayers

For me Michael, my sisters husband, was the brother I never had (as I only had sisters). Words cannot express how much I will miss him always.

Notification of Mike's passing was a severe shock. My thoughts and prayers are with you during this difficult time.
