

Nathan Colvard Claunch, 79, of Ann Arbor, died at his home on Saturday, January 13, 2018. HIS WAS A LIFE WELL LIVED. He was born June 18, 1938 In Chattanooga, TN to Charles and Ann Elizabeth Claunch. Nathan grew up in Chattanooga, TN. He had a special affection for his nanny, Sally Reeves, and often recalled fond memories of time spent together. After graduating McCallie High School, Nathan attended Washington and Lee University, graduating Magna Cum Laude in June, 1960. He received his doctorate in Psychology from Princeton University in 1964. The Merrill-Palmer Institute brought him to the Detroit area for Post-Doctoral training in Clinical Psychology, before starting a private practice as a therapist and marriage counselor. Dr. Claunch enjoyed serving adolescents, individuals, couples and groups in Southfield and Ann Arbor for over 47 years. In his work he brought clarity and guidance infused with his unique twist of wit and wisdom. Nathan considered his work a privilege and genuinely got satisfaction in helping others. Nathan was a one-of-a-kind partner, cherished brother, devoted dad, and gifted therapist and natural ever-present wit. His second career was as a stand-up comedian daily. He is survived by his wife, Linda Sanshie-Claunch; his brother Charles L. Claunch, Jr. (Mary Louise); sister Peggy Claunch; 4 sons Craig (Jessica), Keith, Kevin (Alyse), Ryan (Holly), 3 grandsons Keegan, Wesley, Cortland; 4 granddaughters Xailia, Maiwen, Maya, Etta. He left this world well. A gathering will be scheduled for spring or summer to laugh, share jokes, and tell stories.
