I knew Nick from being on front door duty at FGR. I am in maintenance dept. I found out that he was going to be in the Music Man play. He was going to be in the quartet. Since I sang in Barbershop choruses, and quartets we struck up a conversation. He was a different kid, very caring, nice, not a know it all, but very pleasant. I did some Homework for him(made lists of  u tube videos that would help him- like the Buffalo Bills singing the original,Lida Rose.  He loved all the info I gave him.The next day he brought me some homemade honey. I offered to pay for it but he refused! Wow what a kid!Nick not only went to school, he worked part time,had hives to make honey and was involved in lots of after school activities. He loved life to the fullest and had lots of friends. You raised him up great and he found FGR to his liking! May God have Mercy on his soul and welcome him in heaven. His has a full schedule for God now to attend to..Thank you for sharing Nick with us at FGR!

Looking back, I'm very glad I had this game night when I did. It was a great opportunity to see everyone again before the summer! Nick's smile and laughter was super contagious, and it was a blast having everyone together with some friendly competition. Sometimes, since Nick lived a few floors above me in Sellery, we would head down to the basement to play ping pong or study together. Nick was the reason I was able to play ping pong as much as I did, since he let me borrow his paddle for most of the year. I was going to room with him next year, and I got my own ping pong set to play on in his honor. A part of Nick will always live on inside of everyone he impacted, and those core memories will always be remembered.

I met Nick in my general chemistry course. The picture above is of us at my first Madison hockey game, and it was a lot of fun. He even let me borrow his spare Madison hockey jersey! I remember he wasn't too happy about Madison scoring a last-second goal on Michigan, but it was a great experience regardless. He also taught me a lot of hockey terminology that I had no idea about. I couldn't ask for a better hockey buddy, and his passion for the sport will always be one of my favorite memories we shared.

I didn’t know Nick that well, but I was lucky to be in his lab group for AP Chem a couple years ago. What stuck out to me was his great humility. He patiently helped me through the class (which I particularly struggled with), and in the end I owe much of my success to his mentorship and kindness.

I have such fond memories of seeing Nicholas around Ann Arbor or at UMRadOnc Physics events (especially at The Earle!).  He was always so kind, so loving, and so engaging.  I remember the joy of making balloon animals together with Nicholas ( that always ended up looking like a dog ).  The deep bond between Nicholas and Jean and Stefan was also so apparent and so very dear.   A very special soul!

Nick and I were once rafter rats together running lights and sound for one of the FGR plays. I additionally carpooled with him every day of that week. In the car and in the rafters we would always trade music recommendations while Nick encouraged my candy addiction by bombarding me with his pockets full of life-saver mints. I will never forget one particular car ride conversation we had where we talked about our future plans with college and life. Nick was an amazing friend and a great person to work with. I will keep Nick and his family in my prayers.

Since there were 3 nicholases in their middle school grade and choir we followed the kids lead and Nicholas Chm  was called Nicky.  I’ve been on several choir/school adventures with him in the group including  after school pre choir snack,  mandarin Monday and pizza lunches, Chicago and Spain. . Nicky was funny, sarcastic and smart.  His humor was very advanced for his age and he was a bunch of fun to banter with.  A little old soul was always the vibe I got from him. Rest in peace 🙏🏼

His contribution to Madrigals as a Bass was so valuable to the group. This is one of the few photos I could find where he was front and center - his voice part usually meant he was in the back of the group.

Senior Year Student Written Play - Nick played one of the detectives with an impeccable accent and character development. Just fantastic!

Nick's contributions to the FGR Drama Club were diverse and vital. He was the "Mic Whisperer" and all trouble with mics since he graduated have been met with the wish that "If only Nick were here." His deep voice and his acting talent brought so much to the productions he was in. It has been a joy to watch him on stage and behind the scenes. I am sharing a variety of photos from his four years at FGR. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of his family and friends at this time. He is missed by so many!

Dear Chmielewski Family,

I hope you are all doing well. My name is Ian MacDonald. I graduated with Nick from Father Gabriel Richard. One of the greatest memories that I had with him was when the group was in Assisi. Nick and I climbed to the top of the ominous-looking hill to explore the castle on the top. I was very interested to see what the view would look like there. We both came away struck by the city's beauty, it was just the two of us, and he was so thrilled to be there. I used to sit and eat lunch with him in the classroom and play chess with him. I used to eat lunch with him and talk about outlandish ideas of conquering the world. I heard all about the plastics and types of materials that his Father worked with at the bottling plant as a chemist/engineer. He was arguably the brightest person in the class. But, his grade didn't reflect that all the time because he wouldn't turn in the work sometimes, it made everyone laugh. He was one of the most gifted individuals I have met academically. He was also one of the most satirical and funny people to listen to on the side. I sat right next to him for the entirety of my Junior year in AP language, it made that class so much more bearable. He was a good person, he was a good friend, and I will miss him and his soul very much.

We are heartbroken over Nick’s passing, and are keeping him and the entire Chmielewski family in our prayers. We remember Nick’s warm  smile and humble way of being. It was a joy to interact with him through the FGR drama club, and we know he will be dearly missed by all who were lucky enough to know him. May God grant peace and comfort to all his loved ones, and may angels lead him into Paradise ♥️

I didn’t have the joyous opportunity of getting to know Nick for long, but working with him in The Music Man showed me how truly funny, kind, and intelligent Nick was. He became one of my dearest Drama friends for the time before he graduated, and ever since, his legacy has and still remains present in FGR. He will be severely missed by all. May God bless and keep his soul, and may the Spirit grant peace on all those who love him.

Nicholas was a joy to teach and to know during his middle school years at St. Francis. He will be remembered for his beekeeping stories, his generous smile, and the kindness he showed to everyone. I pray that God offers his peace to all who loved and mourn Nicholas.
