Patricia H. McKinnon, of Oakland Township, passed away Friday, March 2, 2018 in Ann Arbor. She was born to Henry and Genevieve Gorney on November 3, 1951 in Detroit, MI. She loved to play the piano, exercise (especially aerobics and skiing), travel and especially spend time with her four grandchildren.
Patricia was with the Utica Community School District starting in the 1980’s and retired as its Executive Director of Special Services in 2013. Inspired early in life by her sister, Patricia served as a fierce advocate and voice for children and adults with special needs, ensuring that mentally and emotionally handicap people were given the dignity they deserve.
Late in life, as Patricia fought the cancer that would eventually take her, she did so with a positive attitude, unwavering strength and an ever-present smile. She reminded us all to embrace every moment and live life to its fullest.
Mrs. McKinnon is survived by her husband Joe; sons, Darren (Emily) and Gavin (Diana); grandchildren Eve, John, Cora and Louis; and her sister Donna Gorney.
