

Born in Ann Arbor, Michigan on October 30, 1936, Pat was the oldest of two children born to Lawrence F. and Mary Dwyer Barnes. Pat was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Jerry, and his beloved wife Carla (Leddy).
Pat was a proud graduate of Ann Arbor High School (Class of 1954) and attended the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, where he would earn both a bachelor’s (1959) and a master’s degree (1962) in U.S. History.
Pat also served in the U.S. Navy.
Pat would marry the love of his life, Carla, in 1967. Pat worked as a research analyst for the Michigan legislature, retiring from the state of Michigan in 1992. Pat was an avid numismatist and enjoyed the many friendships he developed from his hobby. A generous host with a knack for historical storytelling, Pat was an enthusiastic practitioner of the celebratory toast and always enjoyed a good conversation. A favorite annual pastime was traveling up north to the Little Traverse Bay and Mackinaw areas, where many wonderful times were shared with friends and family.
Pat is survived by his two children, Michael Leddy Barnes of Canton, MI and Jennifer (Jendy) Dwyer Barnes of Chicago, as well as his daughter-in-law Wanda Accra Barnes. Also surviving are grandchildren Patrick A. Barnes, age 16, and Corinne A. Barnes, age 14, of Canton.
Family and friends are invited to attend a memorial mass on Wednesday, April 1 at St. Thomas the Apostle Church, 530 Elizabeth St., Ann Arbor, MI at 10:00 AM.
