Robert V. “Bob” Stone, age 74, passed away Tuesday, August 20, 2013, in Ann Arbor, MI at the University of Michigan Hospital, surrounded by his children, as a result of pulmonary fibrosis. Our dad, grandpa, brother and friend was born to Robert W. and Ruth J. (Arnold) Stone on July 6, 1939, in Defiance, OH. Bob married his high school sweetheart, Carolyn Sue (Walter) Stone, on June 24, 1961, in Defiance, OH. Carolyn died in June 2012. They have three children: Todd (Laurie) Stone of South Lyon, MI; Bruce (Jill) Stone of Redford Twp., MI and Susan (Diana) Stone of Eaton Rapids, MI. There are also seven wonderful grandchildren to cherish Bob’s memory: Andrew, Adam, Kailey, Luisa, Lexi, Vanessa and Cassandra. Bob is survived by his children and grandchildren; his brother, Dr. James (Jackie) Stone of Columbus, OH; his brother, Jeffrey (Nancy) Stone of Defiance, OH; his sister, Wendy (Jerry) Otte of Defiance, OH; his brother-in-law, Michael Walter of Defiance, OH; his nieces and nephews; and many special family members and friends. In addition to his beloved wife, Bob was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, Roy and Florence Walter, and his brother-in-law, Jeffrey Walter, all of Defiance, OH. Bob and Carolyn lived in the Brighton area for more than thirty years. They previously lived in Defiance, OH; Ann Arbor, MI and Clarinda, IA. Bob enjoyed his long career at NSK Corp. (formerly Hoover Ball and Bearing Co.). He was an Elder and volunteer at the First Presbyterian Church of Brighton. Bob served as a city councilman and mayor pro tem while living in Clarinda. Bob very much enjoyed outdoor activities, including working in the yard, camping, golfing, hunting, fishing and attending athletic events. Some of his other hobbies and favorite pastimes were making custom fishing rods for family members, attending Pheasants Forever banquets, and traveling throughout the United States with family and friends. Most important to Bob was spending time with his family. Visitation will be Saturday, August 24th from 2-7 p.m. and Sunday, August 25th from 2-6 p.m. at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, Ann Arbor. Funeral services will be Monday, August 26, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Brighton, with Pastor Dan Michalek officiating, with visitation at the church beginning at 10 a.m. Memorial contributions may be given to the First Presbyterian Church of Brighton or another organization of choice.
