

Schieb, Ruth 9/14/1923 - 1/22/2018 Ruth Irwin (Ballard) Schieb passed away peacefully on Monday, January 22 after a sudden illness. She was 94. Ruth was born in Akron, Ohio on September 14, 1923 to Irby S. Ballard and Sarah (McCormick) Ballard. She grew up in Akron and attended West High School. She completed her bachelor's degree in Education at the University of Akron. Ruth was a sorority sister at Kappa Kappa Gamma. After WWII, Ruth married her sweetheart, Ray Kenneth Schieb. Ruth and Ray lived in Columbus, Ohio where Ray worked on finishing his college degree at Ohio State University. While there, Ruth worked at the Goodyear Relief Office. After college the couple moved to Ann Arbor, Michigan where Ray worked in sales and marketing for Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, MI. Ruth was busy at home starting a family and would eventually raise five daughters. She was active in her church, the First United Methodist Church, where she belonged to the women's group. She was also a member of the Ann Arbor Women's City Club. Ruth loved to socialize and enjoyed time with friends while raising her family. Upon Ray's retirement, Ruth and Ray traveled with friends and visited family members. They spent their time traveling between Michigan and New England where their daughters lived. Ruth especially enjoyed spending time with her 11 grandchildren. Ruth is remembered for her gentle nature. She was a model of kindness and consideration to others. She loved to correspond with acquaintances sending birthday and anniversary cards throughout the year. At one point in time she was sending 200 Christmas cards. Ruth was predeceased by her beloved husband, Ray, in 1998. Survivors include her 5 daughters: Barbara Schieb-Gibbons and her husband Terry of Rindge, NH; Nancy Schieb and her husband Alfred of Durham, NH; Carol Schieb and her husband Doug of Peterborough, NH; Laura Schieb of South Royalton, VT; and Jennifer Delvechio and her husband Stephen of Portsmouth, NH. Ruth also leaves 11 grandchildren who live around the country from California to Maine: Thomas Pliczka, Ingrid Biedron, Caitlin Biedron, Griffin Biedron, Dan Mascola, Laura Mascola, Colin Ackerman, Hannah Ackerman, Ian Craig, Meredith Craig, and Sarah Craig. She leaves 4 great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Muehlig's Funeral Home, 403 South Fourth Ave., in Ann Arbor. Visiting hours will take place at Muehlig's on Friday, January 26 from 2-4 p.m. A funeral service will take place at the First United Methodist Church sanctuary, 120 S. State Street in Ann Arbor on Saturday, January 27 at 1:00 p.m. followed by private entombment at Washtenong Memorial Park and Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chelsea Retirement Home, 805 West Middle St., Chelsea, MI 48118 or to the Hyder Family Hospice House, 285 County Farm Road, Dover, NH 03820.
