Terry Marie Logan, age 56, was surrounded by her husband, family and close friends when she passed away on Saturday, May 23, 2015 at the University of Michigan Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan from Hepato Renal Failure. Terry was born on August 19, 1958 in Kingstree, South Carolina to Marvin Lee Waggoner and Margaret Byrd. Subsequent to her parents’ divorce, she grew up in North Carolina, Virginia, Florida and Canada. As a young adult, she moved to Michigan and with the help of very close friends and confidants, she was able to have a roof over her head and food in her stomach. Times were hard when she managed to be accepted into the C.E.T.A. (Comprehensive Employment and Training Act) School of Nursing in Detroit, Michigan. The world as we knew it was about to change and an excellent nurse was soon to be born. She graduated with honors from C.E.T.A receiving her LPN (Licensed Practical Nurse) degree and began kneading her nursing bones at Henry Ford Hospital (now called Henry Ford Health System) in Detroit, Michigan as a medical and post-operative ICU nurse. It was there when I first met Terry and with Love and deep commitment we were married in Ypsilanti, Michigan, August 24, 1984 on a beautiful summer day. From 1990 to 1998, she obtained her Associate of Science Nursing, Bachelor of Science in Nursing and her (RN) Registered Nurse credentialing. From 1981 to present, Terry held positions as a Clinical Nurse in medical and surgical departments at the University of Michigan Health System and Henry Ford Health System. Terry also worked as ambulatory care manager, clinical care manager, ambulatory care nurse, rehabilitation care nurse, as well as other administrative duties for home care and private practice physicians and their respective associations. Terry was a proud member of the Michigan Nurses Association for which she was a Chapter delegate 1999-2000. Among her many accomplishments and awards over the years include “Top Ten Best Nurse in Michigan Honorable Mention” in Nursing Excellence, Metropolitan Women’s Magazine; “Nurse Warrior Award”, Chapter 8 (MNA), Michigan Nurses Association; “Nurse Hero Award”, MNA; “Honor Roll for Exemplary Teamwork” and “University of Michigan Workplace award”. In addition to her demanding role in the hospital, Terry also served on the board of her condo association. Other past associations included chairing Internal Medicine Workload, Education Research Committee and belonging to Inflammatory Bowel Diseases Journal Club. As I sit back in my chair contemplating how to convey what Terry means to the professional community, I find it impossible to do this in what guidelines are laid before me. I can only say as I went through a small portion of her boxed hardcopy history, I could create a gifted notebook filled with signed professional recommendations and letters from clients and private individuals thanking Terry for the care they or a loved one had received from her. Professionally, there was no limit to what Terry would do in the name of patient care and teamwork. Terry was a loyal friend to all. She loved and embraced you for who you are. Her joy and warmth were contagious. She always had a smile and hug for you. I learned about the power of hugging from Terry. She was always there to help those in need. Over the years, she has raised a lot of money and support for those in need. Nothing could deter her from her mission. She always had your back. She made friends wherever she went and left behind many fond memories for us to hold dear to our hearts. Terry was a true sweetheart, a very special soul and is loved by all. Survivors include her biological mother, Margaret Waggoner (FL), her husband, Melvin Logan and two sons, Seth Logan (MI) and Travis Logan (MI). She is also survived by sisters; Kay Baihly (WV), Loretta Grainger (NC), Mary Gregory (NC), Mickie Gregory (Canada) and brothers; Eric Waggoner (FL), Paul Gregory (VA), Perry Gregory (WV) and Robert Duncan (NC). Terry is preceded in death by her mother Brenda Gregory and biological father, Marvin Gregory, both from Virginia. Terry (Pooh Bear), I have loved you for a long time. Lord willing, we will share more together at another time and another place we can call home. I have loved you for so long I never thought of what my life would be like without being able to look across the room or going upstairs anytime to see your face or to hear you say, “I’m ok”. Saying good morning or good night to you will go on except now I know you are truly okay without hearing the need for you to tell me, because you are in God’s Hands. Thank you for being my wife, my lover and helping me to raise our sons. With limited time and space on my mind, know I will think of you, the life and love we shared, every day. Services will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday, May 29, 2015 at the Muehlig Funeral Chapel, 403 South Fourth Avenue, Ann Arbor, Michigan 48104. Relatives, friends and co-workers are welcome at the service and there will be a family and friends get together from 4 to 6 p.m. on the same day.
