

Alan was born July 23, 1948 in Prince Frederick. Alan lettered in basketball, football and baseball at Calvert HS, as well as playing percussion in the band. He attended the University of Maryland by way of the Pax Plan (the Navy’s program to recruit engineers to NAS Patuxent River) and he interned at HX-21, the Rotary Wing Test Squadron at Patuxent River Naval Air Test Center.
Alan met the love of of his life, Dinah Blanding King, his beloved wife of 39 years, while working at the Annapolis First Federal Savings and Loan. He later returned to the University of Maryland to earn a degree in computer science, after which he secured employment with the Internal Revenue Service as a coding expert. He retired from the IRS in January 2021.
An avid golfer, pool player, woodworker, and sports enthusiast, Alan was also a raconteur of the first order. Friends and family will fondly remember his sharp wit and unparalleled memory for detail. Annual vacations with his beloved Dinah at the Pelican Beach Resort in the Virgin Islands provided some of Alan’s favorite memories, as did their mutual interest in ballet, theater and fine dining. They also enjoyed their annual vacations in the Outer Banks, and spending time with friends at Adam’s Grill and Taphouse in Eastport.
Alan was preceeded in death by his wife, Dinah (Blanding) King, his parents Milton O. King and Olive E (Price) King, his sister Patricia E. King and his brother David M. King. He is survived by his brother Thomas P. King of Lucasville, Ohio.
A memorial gathering for Alan will be held Wednesday, April 12, 2023 from 1 to 3 PM at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke Of Gloucester St, Annapolis, Maryland 21401. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, 2023 at 3:00 PM in the funeral home chapel. A reception will follow in the funeral homes reception room.
