Barbara Lepley Mendes

Barbara (Lepley) Mendes of Annapolis, MD passed away on October 26, 2016 at the home of her son Michael (Lisa) Mendes in Milton, DE. She was surrounded by family and friends. Barb was born on May 22, 1948 in Sturgis, Michigan to Udell and Jeanne Lepley. She graduated from Colon High School in 1966 and then went on to McConnell Flight Attendant School to pursue her dream of traveling. Barb started her flying career with Mohawk Airlines on August 21, 1967, retiring in 2004 from USAirways. After retiring from the airline industry, she worked at the Port of Baltimore. She has made many dear friends over the years. Barb and Mike Mendes were married on September 18, 1992. They enjoyed traveling and cruising to many European cities. One of their greatest joys was spending time with their grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, Barb was preceded in death by her brother James Lepley, sister Virginia (Lepley) Harper, brothers-in-law Ted Harper and Jon Bewley. Surviving are her daughter Tina Mendes (Bill Jenkins) of Cocoa Beach, FL, son Mike (Lisa) Mendes of Milton, DE, sister Jane (Lepley) Bewley of Bow, NH, brother Fred (Debby) Lepley of Colon, MI, and grandchildren, Will Jenkins and Austin and Molly Mendes. She is also survived by nieces and nephews along with her friend, Anne Klenke, who was like a sister to her. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10:30am, Thursday, November 3, 2016 at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Annapolis. The family will receive friends Wednesday, November 2, 2016 from 6-8pm at the John M Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester St., Annapolis. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Memorial Donations, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
