Clyde Andrew Morehead, 85, of Annapolis, Maryland went to be with his Lord, Savior and Friend on July 19, 2024 at his Annapolis, MD home surrounded by his family. Born on the family farm near Elizabeth, West Virginia, July 25, 1938, he was the son of the late James Wille and Frank (Hoffman) Morehead. Clyde met the love of his life, Frankie Cutlip, in Canada while on a ski trip with Fourth Presbyterian Church’s singles group (Ambassadors). They married in 1974 and were devoted to each other for over 50 years.
Clyde grew up on Morehead Ridge near Elizabeth, West Virginia. He developed a strong grip from milking cows which caused people to avoid shaking his hand. During his daily chores he spent the time learning the alphabet backwards so he could compete in the 4-H tribe talent contest. Clyde enjoyed the family pastime of playing board games as well as any games involving athletic competition.
Clyde attended a one-room elementary school near his childhood home. While attending Wirt County High school, he won the “Golden Horseshoe” which is awarded for knowledge of West Virginia history. He served as senior project engineer and physicist in the ship silencing division where he patented quieting devices for the U.S. Navy’s submarine and surface fleet air-compressors. After his retirement, he worked for an additional 5 years for Anteon as an engineering consultant.
Clyde was an active member of Heritage Baptist Church. He served as a deacon, head teller, trustee, ESOL instructor, relief custodian, van driver, pre-school worker, church dishwasher and backpack buddies helper.
He loved spending time with his family and friends. He thoroughly enjoyed competitive games of horseshoes, tennis, ping pong and cards. He looked forward to his yearly trip to the Morehead Family Reunion. He loved baking sourdough bread, keeping the daily mean temperature, gardening, yard work and daily long walks. He had a well deserved reputation as a prankster with his close friends and family. He was an avid follower of sports and loved watching WVU football and basketball, Washington D.C. football and professional tennis. He loved the many family pets they had over the years. Lastly, he had a never ending craving for dark chocolate and ice cream.
