

Bill was born on October 15, 1930 in Cleveland, Ohio, the son of George William Teare and Catharyn Hall Teare. Bill attended Bay Village schools, the University School in Shaker Heights, and The Taft School in Watertown, CT. He then went onto Dartmouth College where he was a member of Delta Tau Delta fraternity and the circulation manager of Dartmouth’s humor magazine, the Jack-O-Lantern. Prior to graduating from Dartmouth in 1953, Bill enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps Platoon Leaders Program, and was honorably discharged in 1957 as a First Lieutenant. Bill then received an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He married Nancy Sawin in 1954 in Sudbury, MA and had two daughters, Cathy and Suzy, who were the light of his life.
After Wharton, Bill started his career at IBM in data processing engineering, and eventually found his way to the printing industry excelling in sales, marketing, and management at Bru-El Graphics, William Byrd Press and The McArdle Printing Co. Bill was President of Printing Industries of Washington in 1976-77 and was involved in many trade associations. He also served as senior Vice President and then President of Printing Industries of America from 1984 to 1991. Bill was responsible for all membership and regional associations in the US and Canada.
Bill was an avid skier and sailor. He pursued his love of sailing on the Chesapeake Bay and was a member of the Gibson Island Club. He was the founder and president of the Main Line Ski Club in Philadelphia and never missed an opportunity to hit the slopes. He built a ski house in Manchester, VT which he enjoyed with his family, teaching his daughters to ski at an early age. Bill had an impressive collection of pins from many ski areas across the United States and Europe.
In later years, Bill moved to Annapolis, MD where he married Linda Anne Coley, who was a devoted and loving wife for nearly 22 years. Bill and Linda shared a true love of learning. During their time at BayWoods, they took classes at St. John’s College and led many current event forums. Bill served on the Board at BayWoods in various positions and was well loved and respected by his fellow residents. Bill was an accomplished pianist and member of the BayWoods Rhythm Band and often entertained residents at various functions at BayWoods.
Bill had a strong passion for education and instilled his belief not only in his children but also his grandchildren. He was particularly proud of his grandchildren and all their accomplishments. Bill loved history and hence enjoyed extensive travel and exploring the world. A couple of his highlights were skiing in the French and Swiss alps and visiting Russia as a consultant to printing businesses.
Bill will be remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know him for his charm, warmth, and quick wit. Bill was most proud of his family and held them dearly in his heart. He is predeceased by his first wife, Nancy Sawin Teare and brother, Rollin Hall Teare. He is survived by his wife, Linda Coley Teare, daughters, Catharyn Teare Cutright (Randall Larrimore) of Princeton, NJ and Susan Teare Morris (John) of Princeton, NJ: his grandchildren Brooks Cutright (Nahema), Molly Cutright, Logan Morris McIntosh (Tom), Nellie Morris Lang (Roy), Catharyn Morris, and Annie Morris Stovall (Mike) and five great granddaughters, Annabel McIntosh, Libby McIntosh, Georgina McIntosh, Nyah Cutright and Mason Lang. He is also survived by his step-daughter, Lauren Rosburg (Kenneth) and step-son, Charles F. Batchelder III (Jenifer) and his Yorkshire Terrier and faithful companion, Angel.
A private service will be held at St. Anne's Church for immediate family. Friends are invited to join in a Celebration of Life at Baywoods of Annapolis, 7101 Bay Front Drive, Annapolis, MD 21403 on Thursday, July 14, 2022 from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM.
