Joan Evelyn Kiser of Sherwood Forest Maryland passed away on December 5th, surrounded by her family. She was 90 years old, born June 7, 1935 and she was a joyful wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, and happy friend to many people everywhere.
She was super friendly and had a truly joyful attitude despite her later infirmities. A graduate of Greenbrier College, she worked at the NSA until she met a young Naval officer, John Kiser, and married him, finding a perfect match and thus began an almost 70 year love affair. She then became mother and homemaker, and yet stayed busy, impacting the community and many people’s lives.
After her children were in high school, she worked with Three Century Tours for many years. She volunteered with the Anne Arundel Visitor’s Bureau, and did Meals on Wheels for many years. She participated in the Severn Town Club Follies, was a Girl Scout leader, sang in the Harundale Church choir, and was a longtime member in the PEO sisterhood.
She is survived by her husband John, son John (Doris), daughter Linda (George Graefe), two grandchildren Andrea and Diana, two great grandchildren, Penny and Jude with a third due soon, and many friends.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital or the charity of your choice.
The family will receive friends at the Taylor Funeral home in downtown Annapolis on Tuesday December 16, from 4 pm to 8 pm. Simple food and refreshments will be available. A private burial service at the Crownsville Veterans Cemetery will be at a time to be determined.
