

Joseph P. O’Dea Sr. of Annapolis, MD passed away peacefully Saturday evening at his home surrounded by his family. Mr. O’Dea was a native Washingtonian and grew up in neighboring Maryland suburb in a home that is now on the Maryland Historic Register called “The O’Dea House”. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Second World War, and retired from the Metropolitan Police Department in Washington in 1965, where he went on to become a Security Specialist at the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, DC. Joseph enjoyed carpentry projects at home and making fine furniture for his family. He was an active member of the Knights of Columbus for many years while living in Prince George’s county, and when he moved to Annapolis. He was known for taking meticulous care of his corner-lot yard and loved talking with his loving nearby neighbors. He was a parishioner at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis, and enjoyed great friendships there. He is survived by his four children Kathleen O. Murphy, Joanne O. Price, Joseph O’Dea Jr. and Mary Margaret O’Dea. He has 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Viewing will be at John Taylor Funeral Home at 147 Duke of Gloucester St. Annapolis, MD. on Friday January 22 , 2016 between 2 to 4 pm, and Sunday, January 24, 2016 from 2 to 4 pm. Funeral to be held Monday, January 25, 2016 at 9 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 109 Duke of Gloucester St. Annapolis MD. Interment will be at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens immediately after. Contributions in lieu of flowers may be made to Hospice of the Chesapeake.
