June Frances Bausum-Powers, 78, went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2015 in Broomfield Colorado after struggling valiantly from cancer. June was born in Annapolis, Maryland on March 9, 1937 to the late Frederick and Florence Bausum. The youngest of 5 beautiful children, June was never short of an adventure on the farm. June loved exploring God’s world in many ways. From a child at 12, she started her own Vacation Bible School in her neighborhood to "share the love of Jesus with all the kids", where her love for teaching children was realized. As a young teenager, she joined her family in establishing Weems Creek Baptist Church in Annapolis, Md. June hit-the-road in her collegiate days at Carson-Newman College in Tennessee and began her missionary work away from home. As a young adult, she visited Canada and New Mexico, experiencing the Native American Tribal life. She graduated from Carson-Newman College with an English degree in 1959. She met her sweetheart, James Lee Powers Jr., at Weems Creek Baptist Church, and after he insistently told his best friend upon seeing her for the first time, "I'm going to marry that girl", he got his wish on June 26, 1959. June and Jim moved from Maryland to California where they eventually landed in Glendora where they raised their 3 children. June and Jim loved the Lord and showed it through all of their dedication and ministry at First Baptist Churches of Glendora and LaVerne. There, as a team, they ran the children's and bus ministry, were involved in every active ministry in the churches and June even invented the fun-filled summer event, "Olympics for Kids", always including the famous "100-foot banana split". After 24 beautiful years of marriage, Jim passed in 1983. June continued to raise her 2 youngest children while putting the Lord first in all she did. Moving to Vallejo, CA in 1992 to become the Director of North Hills Christian Preschool. June loved to travel, visiting Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Holland, Lichtenstein, and Luxembourg with her two kids in tow and her sister Mary Catherine. Possessing a true servant's heart, June continued to do the Lord's work in many countries, including Africa, China, Malaysia, Philippines and India. Her heart was filled with joy when she would return home and tell of all the adventures and people she met in other lands. June was creative beyond measure. She truly had a gift to take random household items and turn them into a craft for kids. She unceasingly wrote poems, crocheted, read Jeanette Oake and Grace Livingston-Hill books, did puzzles in her "Penny Press" puzzle books and loyally used Alka-Seltzer because it will "cure anything you have". She thoroughly enjoyed creating homemade personalized cards from scratch and never missed a birthday when mailing them. June's gentle, quiet, loving, funny demeanor will be missed, but she has truly left an amazing legacy. She has passed down her love for the Lord to her children and grandchildren and was not beyond extraordinary and beautiful. Even into her last days, the first thing she told anyone was how much she loved the Lord and that her faith was number one in her life. In addition to her husband and parents she is preceded in death by her sister, Florence. June is survived by her children; Judi Sjaan (Dave); Duane Alan (Lori) and Nanci Alyson. 12 Grandchildren; Melodi June, Shayne Curtis, Matthew James, Sjadae Samone, Scott Tyler, Catherine Ivy Belle, Jocelyn Alexys, Rebekah Lynn, Haley Elisabeth, Luke Alan, Megan Hope, and Taylor Addison. 8 Great-Grandchildren: Abygael Marie-Alana, Savanna Nicole, EmmaLeigh Rayn, Braxtyn Lee, Tyler Ray, Paizlee Rae, Camren Jase and Chayse Lincoln and her siblings; Sister, Mary Catherine and Joseph Krake; Brothers, Stover and Dolores Bausum and Frederick and Jean Bausum.
