Krystyna was born in Warsaw, Poland, on August 30, 1946. She obtained her undergraduate degree from the University of Warsaw, where she was later awarded her Ph.D. in Biology. After graduating, she came to the United States in 1979 to be a Research Associate at Cornell University, in Ithaca, NY, where she met her husband. In 1980 she accepted a position with the United States Department of Agriculture in Beltsville, Maryland, where she worked as a Chemist for 36 years, until retirement in 2016.
She is remembered for her strength as a widowed mother, who raised two daughters while maintaining her career. Those close to her remember her sense of humor and love for animals.
Krystyna is survived by her daughters Iwona Kalinski (Ryan Kelly) and Monika Dockendorf (Tyler), her sisters Teresa Barankiewicz (Jurek), and Ewa Bialek. She is predeceased by her beloved husband, Andrew J. Kalinski, and parents, Janina and Edward Bialek.
Krystyna was a lover of the arts and frequented theatre performances with her daughters. The family requests those who wish to express sympathy to consider making a donation to The Annapolis Summer Garden Theatre in Krystyna’s name.
