Marcelo Apistar Carona, 93, of Salem, Alabama (formerly of Riva, Maryland) passed away of natural causes on January 08, 2024, at Piedmont Midtown Hospital, Columbus, Geargia. He was born May 14, 1930, in Calinog, Philippines. He served in the US Army for 20 years and later worked an additional 20 years as a Sheet Metal Shop supervisor at Fort Meade, Maryland. Mr. Carona was an avid surfing casting fisherman spending most summer weekends fishing various areas along the shores of the Chesapeake Bay. In his later years he would spend many hours tending to his vast vegetable gardens, growing a variety of vegetables he shared with friends and family. Mr. Carona is survived by his son, Thomas Carona of Salem Alabama, and his daughter-n-law Jessica R. Carona of Salem, Alabama. Mr. Carona is also survived by his two granddaughters, Katherine Carona Dunn of Salem, Alabama (married to Dawson Dunn), Susana Sheraya Carona of Salem, Alabama, and a great granddaughter Natalee Marie Dunn. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susana C. Carona and daughters Cynthia Carona, Frances Carona McMahon, and Marie Judith Carona.
A visitation for Marcelo will be held Monday, January 15, 2024 from 6 to 8 pm at the John M. Taylor Funeral Home, 147 Duke of Gloucester Street, Annapolis, MD 21401. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Tuesday, January 16, 2024 at 10:30 AM in Saint John Neumann Catholic Church, 620 N. Bestgate Road, Annapolis, MD 21401. Interment Lakemont Memorial Gardens, 900 West Central Ave, Davidsonville, MD 21035.
