Margaret Elizabeth Scholz (nee Haddox) passed away on August 20, 2022, from Covid. She was born on March 1, 1921, in Sir Johns Run, Morgan County, West Virginia to parents Pearl Edith H and Elmer Howard Haddox. Margaret attended school in Berkley Springs, West Virginia and graduated from Berkley Springs High School in 1939. She then attended the Marinello Beauty School in Baltimore on Fayette Street. On August 9, 1941, Margaret married Joseph Walter Scholz, always known as Walter, in Winchester Virginia. In 1942, Walter enlisted in the Army, attended officer candidate school, and became a Second Lieutenant. Margaret stayed in Berkley Springs until Walter was stationed in Fort Ord, California then joined him in the summer of 1944. After World War II, Walter maintained a law practice in Annapolis where he and Margaret raised their family.
Margaret was a caring wife to Walter for 30 years and a loving mother to their five children: Margaret Murray, Brenda Wilson, Jennifer Scholz, Mary Scholz and John Scholz. She enjoyed time with her ten grandchildren: Angela, Maria, Meg, Liam, Joseph, Gina, Cecilia, Alan, Tyler, and Garrett; she was also blessed with 4 great grandchildren: Kristin, Will, Jason and Ryan.
In 1969, Margaret went to work in the Maryland Governor’s Office assisting with community affairs. Margaret retired in 1986 at the age of 66, giving her ample time to pursue her passion for gardening and to travel domestically and internationally. Margaret always enjoyed returning to Berkley Springs, West Virginia for annual family reunions. Margaret loved her friends in the Annapolis community and at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She was an avid church goer and rarely missed the 7:00 am Sunday service. You could often find her meticulously attending to her gardens, florals and vegetables. She had quite the green thumb – to the point that a local florist would use the baby’s breath that she raised each year in their arrangements.
Margaret is predeceased by her husband Walter and her daughters Margaret, Brenda and Mary.
