
Mitch was born and raised in Baltimore. He was educated at Gilman, Colgate University (under grad), Columbia University (MBA), George Washington University (PhD). In 1993 he became a Certified Financial Planner and spent his career working at the company he started, Owens Financial.
Mitch was the son of the second largest boat builder in the United States, Owens Yachts. He and his twin brother, Michael spent years racing around the globe with their father in sailboats designed and built by their father.
In his later years his adventurous spirit continued with he and his wife Molly enjoying yearly ski trips, many with their sons hitting slopes from Switzerland to New England and places in between.
Mitch and Molly settled in Annapolis where he enjoyed sailing with his close buddies, rowing with the Annapolis Rowing Club, and being involved in various Maritime Museums keeping the legacy of Owens Yachts alive. He also offered his time by sitting on numerous boards to include the Diocese of Maryland, his community association, as well as various professional organizations.
Mitch was an active member of St. Margarets Episcopal Church, singing in the choir as well as being involved in a 4 year class, Education for Ministry. His activities with church were the foundation of his strong faith.
Mitch is preceded in death by his mother, Mary Lou, father Norman, and his brother Norman, Jr. He is survived by his wife Molly, three sons Bob (Sara), Mitch Jr. (Elisa), and Brooks, his twin brother Michael, and his two sisters Mary Glynn Owens and Claire Owens, as well as four amazing grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Mitchell will be held Saturday, May 31, 2025 at 3 PM in St Margarets Episcopal Church, 1601 Pleasant Plains Rd, Annapolis, MD 21409.
