On January 5th, Barbara Gardner Lackey peacefully passed away surrounded by her family, to join her Savior Jesus Christ, and her beloved husband Edward Lackey. Barbara was a native of Calhoun County, she worked in the textile industry for over 30 years. Barbara was a dedicated member of Tredegar Church in Jacksonville. Barbara was devoted in Faith, loved her family, Nascar, and Alabama football. She will be in our hearts forever, and missed by all who knew her kind, loving spirit, and witty sense of humor.
Barbara is survived by her beloved daughter, Patricia Harrell (Jimmy) who has never left her side, taking care of her to the very end, sons Eddie Garmon (Trish), and James Randy Garmon, Granddaughters Melissa McCrelles (Jeremy), Melinda Johnson, Haily Garmon, Jessica Garmon, Tiffany Hicks, Tonya, Melody, and Hunter Garmon. Great Grandchildren Anna Cobb (Josh), Lauren Johnson, Austin Johnson, Savannah McCrelles, Megan McCrelles, Memphis McCrelles, Cruz, Marleigh, Cash, and Cole Cochran, and two Great-Great Granddaughters Addison, and Allison Cobb.
Allison made her Nanny's last months on this earth very special by singing songs, dancing, and just spending time together talking about Jesus, and our family. Barbara has 3 surviving sisters, Betty, Carol, and Nellie, and one brother.
Services for Barbara will begin at Chapel Hill Funeral Home in Saks with family from 12-1, friends from 1-2 and service following at 2 pm with Tredegar Chapel’s Leslee Bailey presiding.
Pallbearers will be Barbara's Grandsons Austin Johnson, Cruz Cochran, Josh Cobb, Jeremy McCrelles, Timmy Lackey, Son, James Garmon, and cousin, Billy Gardner.
Barbara is preceded in death by her Beloved Husband Edward Lackey, Sister Linda Fenzau, Brother Henry Gardner, Parents Claria, and Herman Gardner.
The family would like to extend special Thank you’s to Angie Crane for all of the love, laughter, and care she gave Barbara in the last years of her life, The Hospice Nurses Madison Vaughn Smith, and Randi West for all of their support, prayers, love and devotion to our family during this difficult time, and Great Grand Daughter Anna Cobb for giving all she had during these last months, our family will never forget what each of you have done.
