

Funeral service for Billy Joe Johnson, 82, will be 3: p.m., Sunday, July 13, 2014, at Gray Brown Service Chapel with the Rev. Randy Huddleston officiating. Burial will follow at Forestlawn Gardens. The family will receive friends from 2 - 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Johnson passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at NHC Healthcare.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Burt Adcock Johnson; daughters, JoEllen "Jodi" Neal (Tony) and Mary Jena Hudson; sons, William Terry (Susan) Johnson, Ronald Frank "Ronny" (Sally) Johnson and Jeffrey Scott (Crystal) Johnson; grandchildren, Crystal Redmon, Mark Neal, Tiffany Peters, Landon Johnson, Ellis Johnson, Amanda Johnson, Tara Lange, Tinelle Allen, Jeremiah Johnson and Jessica Kelly; eleven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
Mr. Johnson is preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Jena Durham Johnson; brothers, Kenneth Johnson and Jerry Johnson.
Bill grew up in the Hollis Crossroads area of Cleburne County, moving to Anniston in the 1940's. In early 1951, Bill joined the Navy and served aboard the Big Battle Ship USS Iowa during the Korean War. He was stationed in Norfolk, Va. and Green Cove Springs, Florida. When he returned to Anniston, he took a job with King Hardware where he learned the business, eventually co-owning Kelly Supply in Anniston. He met Mary Burt Adcock in 1950 and married in April of 1951. God blessed them with 63 years together.
