

Carolyn Juanita Griffey of Oxford, AL was born February 12, 1947 and passed away February 2, 2026. She lived most of her life on Sand Mountain, leaving there with her husband in 1968, moving to Oxford for his employment, where she lived until her passing.
Nita, as she was affectionately known, was a shining light in the lives of those that had the privilege of knowing her. She loved her family and friends dearly, as well as her church family. Her journey on earth was marked by love, kindness, and an unwavering faith in God. She was a prayer warrior for many and loved by all who knew her.
She began working in child care at Trinity Christian Academy, loving the many children in her care. She was also employed as a bank teller for many years, secretary for a local judge, a bookkeeper, office manager, and ended her career working in sales and customer service at Auto Custom Carpets. Throughout her career, she gave tirelessly of herself, with a cheerful heart.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Louise Price Patton, brother, Frank Patton, sister-in-law Benita Patton, and brother-in-law David Wright.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Larry Griffey; daughters Vickie Smith (Martin) and Cindie Cruz (Art); grandsons Shawn Shaddix (April), Rob Rayborn (Amber), and Matt Cruz; granddaughters Adrienne Rayborn, Brittney Brooks, Alisha Shatto (Ryan), and Brittany Kelly; eight great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild arriving soon; sisters Donna Wright and Judy Driskill (Rodney), and brother Mark (Jessica) Patton; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, & nephews.
Those who knew Nita will remember her as a sweet and caring person, with a deep-rooted faith in Jesus Christ, leaving a lasting impact on all those who crossed her path.
