Cleatus Vester Shaw, age 87, of Lincoln, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication that will be cherished by his family and friends for years to come.
Cleatus is survived by his daughter Ruth Stewart (Ralph); and his son Mark Shaw (Pam); his grandchildren Rebecca Stewart (Fiance' Skylar), Ryan Stewart (Fiance' Courtney), Mary Ann Martinez (Angel); and his great grandson Daniel Martinez.
Cleatus was preceded in death by his wife Rose Mary Howell Shaw; his parents William Vester and Vada Shaw; his brother Benny Shaw; and his sisters Maxine Mange and Betty Lee.
A celebration of life service will be held in honor of Mr. Shaw on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at 2:00 PM at Gray Brown Service Mortuary 1329 Wilmer Ave, Anniston, AL 36201. The family will receive friends for a public visitation at 1:00pm. A graveside service will immediately follow the funeral service at Maple Grove Cemetery, Cane Creek Farm Rd, Alexandria, AL 36250. All are welcome to attend.
Born to serve, Cleatus spent over 25 years in the civil service at Bynum, earning the respect and admiration of his colleagues and community. His sense of duty was also reflected in his military service, where he was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Cuban missile crisis. Though a tumultuous time, Cleatus's service showcased his bravery and commitment to his country.
Outside of his service, Cleatus found solace in the great outdoors He loved to fish and took great pride in his boat, often spending hours on the water, reeling in memories with his grandkids at the river. His love for his grandkids was boundless, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Cleatus was also a jack-of-all-trades, with a talent for building and fixing just about anything. He was a great mechanic and he was always willing to lend a helping hand to his neighbors, whenever they needed a helping hand in order to get things done. Throughout his life, Cleatus embodied the values of hard work, kindness, and generosity. His legacy will live on through the countless lives he touched, and he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
