Memorial Service for Donald Ray Cook will be Thursday 2:00 pm April 14, 2022 at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 12 until 2 pm prior to the service at the chapel. Rev. Dale Denham will be officiating.
Donald Ray Cook (Paw Paw) of Ohatchee, Alabama passed away unexpectedly on April 9, 2022 at the age of 69 in his residence.
Donald was born on June 11, 1952 in Terre Haute, IN. He was a 1971 graduate of Gerstmeyer Technical High School. Donald served in the United States Navy from 1971-1980. He worked as a diesel mechanic until 1983. In 1983, he started his career with the Federal Bureau of Prisons in Terre Haute until 1992 when he transferred to Seymour Johnson AFB in North Carolina until 1996. From there he made his final move to Talladega Federal Correction Institution Prison in Alabama where he retired in 2004. Donald gave more than 28 years to the Federal Government. After retirement, he spent his time tinkering with lawnmowers and small engines; mowing and taking care of the neighborhood lawns. He also spent time with his grandkids and great grandkids whenever possible. He was loved by many.
Donald is survived by his wife of 49 years, Patricia (Patty) Ann Cook of Ohatchee, AL. His children Christina (Homer) Moore of Shelburn, IN, Tanya (Joseph) Dodson of Ranburne, AL, Joshua (Donielle) Jones of Jacksonville, AL, Justin (Taylor) Cook of Fayetteville, NC, and Jordan Cook of Ohatchee, AL. His brother Edward Lee Cook of Terre Haute, IN, his sister Maryjo Lane of Carrollton, GA. Grandkids: Ashleigh (Steve) Osborn and Mikaella (Hunter) Strain. Great grandkids: McKenna & Kaysen Cook, Adalynn & Asher Jones, Raeleigh, Lillianna, & Amilliah Osborn, and Braelyn Brodie. Several nieces and nephews.
Donald was preceded in death by his father Donald Edward Cook, his mother Rose Catherine Cook, his sister Frieda Pearl Payton, and his granddaughter Brittany Leigh Moore.
