Helen Pugh Goodwin, our loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend was called home to her Heavenly Father on January 7th, 2023. She was 90 years old and was surrounded by her loved ones at her home.
Memorial services will be held 2pm on Wednesday January 11th, 2023, at St. Michaels & All Angels
1000 W 18th St, Anniston, AL 36201. The family will receive friends in Lagarde Hall for one hour prior to the service. Burial will be private.
Helen married the love of her life, Howard Goodwin of Anniston, AL. Together they created a life and home full of Godly love and laughter while owning Helen Pugh Interiors and Goodwin Drugs. She was a sought-after interior designer, a valued and active member of the alter guild at St. Michaels, and an amazing cook. Both individually but stronger together, they were inspirational examples of how to walk through this life, love deeply, learn, and always be generous and kind. Helen had a strong love for her family, red wine, and fine antiques.
Helen is known to most as 'Grandmommy', an endearing name she embraced with such affection, care, and honor. She truly embodied unconditional love. There was not a friend, relative, caretaker, or child she didn't love like her own. To know her, was to know that you were prayed for, loved, and accepted. Grandmommy was blessed to be surrounded by her husband, daughter, son in law, and grandchildren all living nearby the last few years when she needed them most.
She truly was the epitome of southern hospitality, grace, wisdom, and beauty. You would never catch Helen not eating on fine dining China without an ironed tablecloth at hand (even at a rest area on the side of the road during a road trip, always an ironed table cloth and fine China).
Helen is survived by her husband Howard Goodwin, daughter and son-in-law Gil and Becca Hamilton, two grandchildren Kathryn and Wil Hamilton, and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
