

Jimmy W. O’Dell went to be with his Heavenly Father on December 18, 2011, after a short battle with lung cancer. He died at University of Alabama Hospital. In 1968, after only two weeks of marriage, he was drafted into the United States Army and served two years. Jimmy retired two years ago, after more than 39 years with Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company in Gadsden, Alabama. He was an avid fisherman and belonged to the Goodyear Fishing Club. Pop Pop’s main past time was playing with his nine grandchildren and one great grandson. He rarely missed any of their school activities or games and was their biggest fan.
He is survived by his wife of forty three years Gayle O’Dell; daughters Rhonda and Rodney Smitherman of Alexandria; Celena and Mike Willis of Gulf Shores; and Tiffaney and Shannon Pesnell of Ohatchee. Grandchildren Chelsea Smitherman, Chance Smitherman and Chase Smitherman; Matthew and Summer Sedenik, Makenna Willis, Carson Willis and Baylee Willis; Trey Pesnell and Tripp Pesnell; one great grandson Brody Sedenik. Brothers Richard and Betty O’Dell, Mike and Connie O’Dell, Tim and Bobbi O’Dell; Sisters Marie and Guy H. Allred, Bonnie Gosdeck, Linda and Larry Benton and Peggy and Roger Shambaugh; numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceeded in death by his parents Clarence and Myrtis O’Dell; brothers Hershell O’Dell and John O’Dell. Jimmy was a loving husband, dad, Pop Pop, brother and friend. He will be missed by all!
Services will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home on Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at 2:00 PM. Graveside service to follow at First Baptist Church of Ohatchee.
Pallbearers will be Nephews; David Allred, Chad O’Dell, Chuck O’Dell, Keith Swanson and friends; Toby Burt, Keith Isbell, Greg Smitherman, Roger Smitherman, Bryan White and Larry Wilson.
