

Wellington – Services for Mr. John Floyd “Hoss” Roberts, age 66 a ‘65 graduate of Wellborn High School passed away on April 11, 2013. Funeral Services will be held at Chapel Hill Funeral Home Monday, April 15, 2013 at 11 am, visitation will be Sunday, April 14, 2013 from 2-5 p.m.
Pastor Scott Prater will be officiating and burial will be at Eulaton United Methodist Cemetery where he was an active member during his youth.
John was born on October 30, 1946 in Calhoun County to the late Duey Aubrey and Mary Nell Roberts. John was retired from the Anniston Army Depot as a Guidance Missile Technician and Tech Publications writer. John was the number one salesman several times for Norwood Hodges Volkswagen and Colonial Mobile Homes/Vintage Enterprises. John was a past president of the Birmingham Quill Club for several years and published author known for his creative flair with the pen or pencil on any paper, piece of wood or shingle. John was a talented musician at writing and playing his own songs on the guitar. He sang with Linda Ronstadt in Tucson, Az. while he was in the Air Force for 4 years. John was the No. 1 boxing champ for the Air Force in Rhein Mein, Germany knocking out the German Champ in the first round. John was the Building Superintendent for the local Habitat for Humanity group. John was instrumental in facilitating the Jimmy Carter Build and Habitat now uses his design for current builds. John was the current Will Rogers of Calhoun County and never met a stranger. He was an avid Alabama fan, loved fishing, hunting and always working with old cars.
Survivors include his wife, Dianne (Yank) Roberts; son, Brian Christopher (Samantha) Roberts of Cullman; sister, Susie (Johnny) Prater; special granddaughters, Katie Marie Jackson and Bailey Nicole Roberts of Cullman; nephews Scott (Heather) Prater and Blake (Julie) Prater and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by grandparents, Jessie Floyd & Rosa Murphree and John Monroe & Mamie Roberts.
Pallbearers will be William “Bill” Totherow, Johnny, Scott and Blake Prater, Jack Waddell, Larry Abernathy, Manuel “Robbie” Robinson and son Brian Christopher Roberts.
Honorary pallbearers are Horace O’Kelley, Bud Moe, David Duff and members of the Birmingham Quill Club.
