

Born in 1934 to Ralph O. Ellard and Mrs. Evelyn O. Ellard of Birmingham, AL, she graduated from Phillips High School in 1952 and attended Gadsden State Jr. College. She retired from a rewarding career as secretary to Wayne Chandler, the chief of police in Anniston, after 20 years of service. In addition to serving the city she loved as the secretary to the chief of police, Kathryn wrote many letters to the editor of the Anniston Star regarding civic projects that were published. She even ran for mayor in the 2001 Mayoral race in Anniston.
She has been a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church for 45 years where she cherished the love of the Lord and used him as a guide throughout her life. She was a member of the choir, a Sunday school teacher for the senior ladies class and later for the 4 & 5 year olds.
She was am amazing gourmet cook, but was best known for her scrumptious Strawberry Yum-Yum cake, which was one of her many published recipes. Her intricate handwork, taught to her by her grandmother, will live on in the beautiful dolls Kathryn dressed for the Salvation Army Doll Auction. She was also an active member in the Golden Springs Chapter of the Red Hat Society.
Mrs. Ankeny was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Harry C. Ankeny, Jr. She is survived by her three children, Cynthia Phipps and husband Doug of TN, Harry C. Ankeny III of GA, and Jennifer A. Holt and husband Thomas of VA; her granddaughter, Emily K. Holt; grandson, Carson T. Ankeny; sister Julia Brown and husband Albert; her two nieces; and her loving friend and caregiver Norma M. Tyson.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m., Thursday, February 18, 2016, at Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Anniston with Dr. Billy Harris officiating. Please join the family for finger food and visitation prior to the service from 11:00 to 12:30 p.m. in the church parlor. Graveside services at Forestlawn Gardens in Golden Springs will conclude.
