Marshall J. Smith

Funeral services for Marshall J. “M.J.” Smith, 83, of Oxford will be 11:00 am, Saturday, May 5, 2012 at Gray Brown-Service Chapel with Rev. Tim Harper officiating. Entombment will follow at Forestlawn Mausoleum. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 pm, Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Smith died Thursday, May 3, 2012 at his residence.

Survivors include wife of 61 years, Jerry Ann Smith of Oxford; sons, Greg Smith (Rhonda) of Birmingham, Brian Smith (Sharla) of Lineville, and Todd Smith of Oxford; grandchildren, Colby Smith, Zachary Smith, Brett Smith, Hunter Smith, Cody Smith, Briana Smith and Sierra Smith; sister, Jeanette Harmon (Gerald) of Oxford; brothers Bennie Smith (Ann) of Nappa Valley, CA, Bob Smith (Barbara) of Jacksonville, FL.

Mr. Smith is preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Lola Bell Smith; brother, J. B. Smith; and sister, Melvina McDaniel.

Pallbearers will be family and friends.

Mr. Smith was a native of Clay County and resident of Oxford for 50 years. He was a member of Union (D) Baptist Church and was a US Navy Veteran where he served during the Korean Conflict and retired from the US Navy Reserve. He also retired from the Anniston Army Depot after 36 years of service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Union (D) Baptist Church in Shinbone, AL.
