A former native of New York, Richard joined the Army after high school and served with honor. He attended the University of Maryland while in the service, and graduated with a degree in Psychology. He retired in 1979, with the rank of Master Sergeant. He gave the US Government another 20 years working in the General Services Administration, where he was a real estate specialist.
An avid reader, Richard introduced his children to reading at a young age. He liked painting, woodworking and gardening, practicing the “Benevolent Neglect” method of gardening, often resulting in a bounty of vegetables, to the surprise of more hands-on gardening neighbors. He enjoyed golf and fishing, although he did not find much time for the latter. He loved sailing and boating, a trait he shared with his children and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of almost forty-seven years, Olive Palmedo; by his parents, Sophie and Harold Palmedo; and by his sister, Lois Sitler. He leaves behind his wife, Christin Palmedo; four children: Tracy Goode, of Weaver; Valerie Goudie, of Little Rock, AR; Richard “Rick” Palmedo II, of Pell City and Sean Palmedo, of Jasper; nine grandchildren: William “Bill” Beecham, of Talladega; Michael Goode, James Goode and Brendan Goode, all of Weaver; Richard “Trey” Palmedo, of Auburn; Christopher Palmedo and Anna Palmedo of Pell City; and Ian Palmedo and Mia Palmedo, of Jasper; two son-in-laws, C. James Goode of Weaver and Dr. Anthony Goudie of Little Rock, AR; one daughter-in-law, Lisa Palmedo of Jasper; a brother, Vincent Palmedo, of Orlando, FL; a Brother-in-law, Leo Tracy of Highland Mills, NY; Sisters-in-law Diana Palmedo of Orlando, FL and Cora Maxwell of Clifton, NJ and Marianne Tracy of Highland Mills, NY; and numerous nephews and nieces.
