

Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth S. Williams will be conducted by Elbert Lewis, assisted by John Ross, at 11:00 am, Wednesday at Gray Brown-Service Chapel. Burial will follow at Edgemont Cemetery in Anniston, AL. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Williams resided in Calhoun County most of her life. She was a graduate of Calhoun County High School, in Oxford; Jackson University in Nashville, TN; and completed post-graduate studies at Gadsden State Community College and Jacksonville State University.
Mrs. Williams retired from Civil Service, Anniston Metropolitan Airport and Anniston Airport Board. She was formerly employed by Ward-Belmont College for Women, of Nashville, TN, and Monsanto Chemical Company, of Anniston. She held life-time membership in the Parents-Teachers Association and was a member of Betta View Hills Church of Christ.
Ruth and her husband Vennard Williams were instrumental in establishing the first Church of Christ congregation in Eastaboga. They provided free of charge rental property, utilities and amenities for a meeting place from 1961 to 1966 when the present day Church building was constructed in Eastaboga, Al, on Highway 78 near the Mudd Street intersection.
Survivors include three daughters, Joy W. Pool, and her husband Daniel G. Pool of Reston, VA; Jill W. Durham, and her husband Barry Scott Durham of Alexander City, AL and Cecelia June Williams of Riverside; one son, Vennard Byron Williams, and his wife Jeana P. Williams of Alexander City, AL; four grandchildren, Leigh W. Aaron and her husband Brett Aaron of Montgomery, AL; Brooke Williams; Barry Bowman of Eastaboga; Nathan Pool of Reston, VA; and four great-grandchildren, Kayla and Tyler Bowman of Eastaboga, and Jackson and Harrison Aaron of Montgomery.
Mrs. Williams was preceded in death by her husband, Vennard Williams; her mother, Nance McKenzie Strickland; three brothers, Fred G. Strickland, who was killed in France in WWII; Edward D. Strickland, and James Arnold Pate.
