

Steve is survived by Jane Rawlings; children DeAnna Spurlin (David), Debbie Spurlin Porter (Brian), Clayton Spurlin (Tina), Kim Hudson (Pete); Grandchildren: Danielle, Emily (Andy), Josh, Lori (Blake), Stephen Andrew (Shelby), Maya, Sue, Pete (Leslie), Cory (Holliandra), Jessica (Shane); 12 great grandchildren Cleo, Artemian, Oliver, Vivian, Nadine, Fiona, Merida, Penelope, Bradin, Samuel, Melody, Aleia; and one sister Evelyn Smith.
Steve is preceded in death by his parents Ernest and Flora Spurlin; siblings Ernestine Tidwell, Euline Hammonds, and Odell Spurlin.
Steve was a graduate of Alexandria High School, and was best known when he worked with Hamp Hammonds as the mechanic/owner at Melrose Garage in Alexandria. He retired from Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company and was an avid pilot. He loved to fly his Piper Tri Pacer affectionately known as “The Brick Bat”. He was a dedicated father and caring Grand Steve.
Memorial led by Pastor Herb Murray from Bonney Brook Baptist Church in Jacksonville, where Steve & Jane attended.
Services will be held Saturday, April 18, 2026 at 12:00 PM at Chapel Hill Funeral Home. The family will receive friends on Saturday, April 18, 2026 from 11:00 until 12:00 with a private burial at Salt Creek Baptist Church.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Southern Care New Beacon Hospice of Gadsden; Dr. Stephen Higgins, Dr. Christopher Wood, and the 7th floor nurses and techs at Gadsden Regional Medical Center.
